I became acquainted with photography in 1957. After a school day in a German high school, Iwas walking from Yüksekkaldirim to Karaköy. There was a book exhibition on the pavement. I just glimpsed at a magazine in which there was a photo showing a sailing-boat in the horizon, sea, sea waves on the shore, beach, pebbles and the feet of the photographer himself ..

all the images were clear and bright... That photo had an angle of approximately 110 or 120 degrees. I suddenly got an urge to shoot pictures like that photo and I bought that magazine and later subscribed to it.

The text of the magazine was mostly in German. Since I became the top student in class the same year, my father rewarded me with a 6x6 Reflecta camera. It was my first camera.. In 1970, I established my first dark-room.

For a long time, I took only architectural,family or panoramic snapshots.Nevzat ÇAKIR was my neighbour in Muğla. One day, he decided to move to İstanbul from Mugla and left his consulting office and dark room to me. I converted it into an architectural office.

Because of the need arising from the education of our children (Kagan,1973 and Hakan, 1978) we moved back to Istanbul. In 1985, Nevzat Çakir presented IFSAK to me. And he gave me the first sensible bath formulae. From that day on, my outlook of photography changed. I got involved in monthly contests of IFSAK, national or international contests and rewards..

In 1990, Aclan URAZ, the president of IFSAK, made an offer to establish ateliers to improve the black and white photography.

I was attracted to training the new and unexperienced photographers. My atelier efforts continue to the present day.

Cemil AGACIKOGLU, Hatice TUNCER, Kemal GÖK, Günsel YILDIRIM, Ayşe BAGDEMIR, Remziye AKÇAY and many others attend our atelier for traning and then take off to the horizons of photography. All the rewards they have won make me feel asif they are my own successes. More than a hundred students..

It is a joyful way to spend time with the enthusiasts who come together to produce photos. To produce, to have them published and finally end up with an exhibition.. I wish we could crown all our efforts with the compilation of a book as well..
